|United With Rural Women Migrant|
KUALA LUMPUR 5 March, 2008: In order to raise the voices of Asian rural women who migrant to work, CARAM Asia will be organising a workshop entitled Labour Migration and Displacement at the 1st Asian Rural Women’s Conference (ARWC) in India.
Nova Nelson, Programme Officer of CARAM Asia noted, “The disintegration of the rural economy has forced rural women to seek livelihoods through migration. Rural women who are pushed into migration are confronted with the most severe degrees of marginalisation. The ARWC will not only provide a platform for CARAM to engage rural women in addressing their realities in the nexus of globalisation and migration, it will also ensure the development of community oriented solutions”.
More than a thousand rural and indigenous women all over Asia will gather at the 1st Rural Women’s Conference (ARWC) in India from 6 to 8 March, to strengthen the rural and indigenous women’s movement and to build leadership of rural women. More on the conference website here...
